We wrongly assumed connection of the song with Robeson. Of course some slight deviationd are in lyrics ans tune in Hazarika's song but we are proud of his song having world wide publicity to fight for human rights everywhere. His manuhe manuhor babe is the best song in Assamese language. Thanks everybody for this invaluable opportunity given for interaction. Thanks a lot once again.bhuban gogoihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11965363954532294457noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7000780482369580075.post-13316956152643542622021-05-25T10:48:28.349-04:002021-05-25T10:48:28.349-04:00Great song!Great song!Sandy Schumanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04373637046730424126noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7000780482369580075.post-21460765485940999152021-05-25T07:27:35.667-04:002021-05-25T07:27:35.667-04:00Bhupen Hazarika, also known as "Bard of the B...Bhupen Hazarika, also known as "Bard of the Brahmaputra" belonged to Assam, North East India. His own songs (in Assamse, Bengali and Hindi) talk about life of the people and their struggles. His song Manushe manusher jonne was voted as the BBC song of the millennium (Bengali chapter). In any case, please let me know what you develop. We got the "Ledbelly sings for Children" CD a number of years ago for our kids and I had long thought that he wrote it. I'm working on an arrangement of it for chorus and hearing these other versions is giving me lots of ideas!zcellist66https://www.blogger.com/profile/05529293605374731843noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7000780482369580075.post-34730831160184053072020-04-01T13:50:42.213-04:002020-04-01T13:50:42.213-04:00Thanks. Leadbelly was at the party and asked the Irishman if he could give him a few pointers. Along with Pete, they moved into the only free space, which was the bathroom. There LeadBelly, with his guitar, showed how the tune could be adjusted to make it more melodic. Whether or not the Irishman took it on board, I don't know, but Pete certainly did and LeadBelly's adaptation became the tune for which Pete wrote "Kisses sweeter than wine."
